Patta, chitta, A-register and FMB: how to check land records online
What patta, chitta, A-register, adangal and FMB sketch mean in Tamil Nadu, and how to view them free on eservices.tn.gov.in before you buy land.
Before buying land or a plot in Tamil Nadu, check the revenue records. They show who the government records as the owner, the extent and the land type.
What each record is
- Patta: the revenue record of ownership for a survey number (owner’s name, extent, land type).
- Chitta: the land register for a village (now shown with the patta as a merged patta/chitta).
- A-register: the survey-wise details of the village.
- Adangal: the cultivation record for farm land.
- FMB (Field Measurement Book): the sketch of the survey field with its boundaries and measurements.
- TSLR: the Town Survey Land Register for land in towns.
How to view them online (free)
- Open eservices.tn.gov.in and choose “View Patta & FMB / Chitta / TSLR Extract”.
- Choose Rural or Urban, then district, taluk and village.
- Enter the survey number and subdivision (or the patta number).
- Type the verification code and view the extract.
What to match
- The owner’s name on the patta should match the seller in the title deeds.
- The survey number, subdivision and extent should match the sale deed and the FMB sketch.
- The land type (for example dry or wet land, or poramboke) matters: poramboke is government land and cannot be bought.
After you buy, apply for patta transfer to your name. Keep the updated patta with your documents.

Patta is the revenue record of who owns the land for tax purposes. Ownership comes from the registered title deeds; the patta should match them.
